Free CDTV OS 2.35 update out now

CDTV OS 2.35 is an unofficial, custom update for CDTV. Available now for free as a patch update to the official Commodore 2.30 ROM image.

This little project has cost me most of my free time over the past 6 months. That time was spent on reverse engineering and analyzing major parts of the CDTV operating system ROM code, setting up a build system, coming up with hardware debugging techniques, squashing bugs and adding improvements. Testing has also taken a lot of time. CDTV OS 2.35 has undergone testing by a select group of CDTV owners all over the world with a diverse range of CDTV configurations to ensure it runs smoothly on as many systems as possible.

It has also cost me bundles of money to buy stuff that I thought I needed to properly develop and test my code (spare CDTV units, 68030 accelerators, EPROMS, EPROM programmer + adapters, the CDTV developer Flash board, CD+G discs and more crazy shit). I also managed to damage the traces on one of my CDTVs (through sheer stupidity of my own, that is) and the DAC on one of the CDTV test units stopped working (throwing me for a loop for a while before I finally figured out what was going on). In the end though, the price paid was all worth it and I am delighted to finally release this thing into the wild. I hope you get as much enjoyment from this freshly polished, 21st century update to your beloved CDTV player’s system code as I had in creating it.

I did not do everything on my own. I was helped by an incredibly generous bunch of people who offered their free time, their skills and their advice to support me all throughout this process. Without their help 2.35 would probably never have seen the light of day.

Currently, due to copyright reasons, CDTV OS 2.35 is only available in the form of a patch, although it might be available through official channels in the future. Get the patch on Github:
